Welcome to Vela. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Vela mobile application and website at veladate.app (collectively, the "Service"), operated by Vela ("we," "us," or "our").
By creating an account or using Vela, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
You must be at least 18 years old to use Vela. By creating an account, you confirm that you are 18 or older and have the legal capacity to enter into this agreement. If we discover you are under 18, your account will be immediately terminated.

We moderate content using a combination of automated AI systems and human review. Violations may result in warnings, suspension, or permanent termination of your account.
Vela is not a healthcare provider. We do not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. All health condition information on Vela is entirely self-reported by users. We do not verify the accuracy of any health condition disclosures.
Do not rely on Vela for medical decisions. Always consult a licensed healthcare professional for medical advice, testing, treatment, and questions about your health.
Your health conditions are encrypted on your device before they are transmitted to our servers. We use authenticated encryption (xsalsa20-poly1305) with a key that is stored only on your device's hardware-backed secure storage. This means:
You may share your health status with a match using the "Share my health status" action in chat. This creates an encrypted access grant — your conditions are encrypted with a per-grant key and stored as ciphertext. Your match can view your conditions on your profile after consenting to a confidentiality agreement. You can revoke access at any time, which immediately hides your health data from the match.

All prices are in USD. Launch pricing is a promotional rate. We will notify you at least 30 days before any price change takes effect. You may cancel at any time.
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the same rate for each renewal period.
You can cancel your subscription at any time. To cancel, manage your subscription through your device's app store settings (Apple App Store or Google Play Store), or contact [email protected]. When you cancel:
Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. If you believe you were charged in error, or if you experience a significant service issue, contact [email protected] within 14 days of the charge. We will review your request and respond within 5 business days.
We are not obligated to provide refunds for partial billing periods, change of mind, or failure to cancel before a renewal date.
You retain ownership of all content you upload to Vela, including photos, biography text, and messages. Your content is yours.
By uploading content to Vela, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, reproduce, and distribute your content solely for the purpose of operating and improving the Service. This means we can show your profile to other users, display your photos in the app, and similar operational uses.
This license ends when you delete the content or your account.
We use AI-powered moderation to scan photos and text for policy violations, including harassment, illegal content, and explicit material. Content that violates our policies may be removed, and your account may be suspended or terminated. Moderation is automated, and no human reviews your content unless a violation is flagged.
Health condition data is never sent to content moderation systems. Moderation applies only to profile photos, chat photos, and text messages.
Vela includes a private album feature that lets you upload photos visible only to users you explicitly grant access to.
While we take measures to protect your private photos (including screenshot blocking on Android), we cannot prevent all methods of screen capture. Share private photos at your own discretion.
Your privacy matters deeply to us, especially given the sensitive nature of the information shared on Vela. Our Privacy Policy explains in detail what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights over your data.
By using Vela, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in our Privacy Policy. Key highlights:
The Vela name, logo (the "V" mark), brand identity, website, app design, code, and all related materials are the intellectual property of Vela and are protected by applicable copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You can delete your account at any time from the Settings screen in the app. When you do, all of the following happen immediately and permanently:
Account deletion is immediate and irreversible. There is no recovery window. Once you confirm deletion, your data cannot be restored. Please make sure you want to proceed before confirming.
We may suspend or permanently terminate your account if:
If your account is terminated for a violation, you are not entitled to a refund for any remaining subscription period. We will notify you of the reason for termination when possible.
If your account is terminated, you may appeal by emailing [email protected] within 30 days. Appeals are reviewed by a different team member within 15 business days. You will receive a written explanation of the appeal decision.
Vela is provided "as is" and "as available." We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure at all times. We do our best, but things break sometimes.
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Vela and its officers, directors, employees, agents, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
In no event shall our total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to the Service exceed the amount you have paid to Vela in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or fifty dollars ($50), whichever is greater.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Vela and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:
This indemnification does not apply to the extent that the claim arises from Vela's breach of its obligations under these Terms or the Privacy Policy.
Vela respects the intellectual property rights of others. If you believe that content on Vela infringes your copyright, you may submit a DMCA takedown notice to [email protected].
Your notice must include:
Vela will remove infringing content promptly upon receipt of a valid DMCA notice. We may also terminate the accounts of users who are repeat infringers.
Before filing any legal claim, you agree to contact us at [email protected] and attempt to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days.
If we cannot resolve the dispute informally, you and Vela agree to resolve any claims through binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association (AAA) under its Consumer Arbitration Rules. Arbitration will be conducted in the English language.
You and Vela agree that:
If 25 or more similar claims are filed against Vela, they will be resolved through a bellwether process: 10 representative cases will be selected (5 by claimants, 5 by Vela), arbitrated, and decided. The results of the bellwether cases will then be used to resolve the remaining claims, either through settlement or further arbitration consistent with the bellwether outcomes.
You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing [email protected] within 30 days of creating your account. Your opt-out notice must include your name, email address, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out of arbitration. If you opt out, you and Vela retain the right to resolve disputes in court.
If you are a resident of Canada, the mandatory arbitration and class action waiver provisions do not apply to you to the extent prohibited by applicable Canadian law.
Either party may bring a claim in small claims court if it qualifies. Either party may seek injunctive or equitable relief in court for intellectual property infringement or unauthorized access to the Service.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. For Canadian users, nothing in these Terms limits your rights under applicable Canadian privacy legislation, including PIPEDA and provincial privacy acts.
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid by a court or arbitrator, that provision will be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, or if it cannot be modified, it will be severed. The remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make changes, we will post the updated Terms on this page and update the "Last updated" date. For significant changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you through the app or by email.
The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when these Terms were last revised. Your continued use of Vela after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you should stop using the Service and delete your account.
